What to do during a flood

Move to higher ground: If a flash flood is going to happen, it’s best to move to higher ground immediately and wait for instructions or next steps. This will keep you and everyone else safe during a storm and possible flooding situation.
Stay aware: Know in advance if there is going to be a storm so that you can prepare if you foresee a flood happening. If you know there is going to be a storm you can also take a few steps in advance to prevent a flood.
Stay away from flood water: Flood water can carry raw sewage, chemical waste and other disease spreading substances. If you come in contact with this type of water you should sanitize immediately.
Evacuate if necessary: It is best to turn off all utilities, including electrical appliances and evacuate the building if the flooding is really bad. If there is a lot of water in the building you should evacuate and wait elsewhere for help.
