What to know about mold inspections and removal?

When it comes to dealing with the potential for a mold growth in any building, it is essential action is taken. Not only is mold an unsightly issue, but it can become a genuine health and structural hazard over time. Therefore, understanding mold inspections and mold removal services is very important. Should you spot any potential mold in any commercial or residential building, it is your duty to handle the problem

What, though, do these services entail? What do mold inspections and removal services actually do to try and eradicate the issue?

Mold isn’t always visible.

The problem with mold is that we are often only aware of the issue once it becomes serious enough to be seen. Walls, ceilings, and flooring could become mold-infested for a long time before you even can see the damage becoming apparent on the interior. That is why you should always look to test for mold presence with a mold testing kit.

Of course, if you can already see the issue, you have no need to invest in testing. There is no form of mold that is healthy or beneficial, and all molds will be removed with similar techniques.

Mold has to be removed properly.

During an inspection, be alert for any signs of an overly cheap or easy for mold removal. If the inspection confirms the presence of mold, you will need to invest in getting a solution. Mold removal can start at around $1,000, but it can be slightly more or less depending on the severity. However, the main thing to remember is that mold removal should also include some form of meaningful mold prevention.

If they simply scrape away the mold as you could have done yourself, the problem will likely return. Mold removal services should include thorough removal that helps to prevent future mold in the same area(s).

Mold is linked to moisture.

During any kind of meaningful mold inspection, the primary search should involve finding what caused the mold. Often, it comes from humidity and/or moisture. You should therefore look for any inspection to not only confirm the presence of the mold, but to offer a useful solution to get rid of the mold permanently in the future so that it does not return.

All mold stems from moisture or water build-up; finding out where the moisture is coming from is a primary concern.

Ensure mold removal meets the needed level.

Lastly, make sure that any service you hire for mold removal is doing things in the correct way. This means ensuring the surface is scrubbed clean and removed with a solution that can actively kill off the present mold. Once the source of the build-up is dealt with, all of the moldy materials should be kept in 6” thick plastic bags, double-wrapped, and then wiped down again prior to disposal. Since mold spores get into the air, ensuring there is no trace left over at the end of clean-up is essential to prevent the return of mold.

While mold inspections and removals are often fairly self-explanatory, it is important to ensure the job done helps to prevent a return of mold in the future. From ensuring all mold is spotted to solving the problem at source, mold inspection and removal has to be thorough and focused. Otherwise, the problem will return.
